Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and Huddersfield Choral Society from the UK join forces for a concert on June 4

The TMC is thrilled to welcome the UK’s acclaimed Huddersfield Choral Society (founded in 1836) to Toronto this Spring.  On June 4th these two world-class choirs will join forces to present a concert of choral classics, featuring many of the greats of English Cathedral music. The choirs will fill Yorkminster Park with a grand symphonic sound.

The choirs will open the program with their joint forces performing Handel’s rousing  Zadok the Priest. The program will include works sung by Huddersfield alone under the direction of Greg Batsleer, by TMC alone, and by the united choral forces of the two choirs.

Huddersfield Choral Society

Founded in 1836, the Huddersfield Choral Society has developed an international reputation as one of the UK’s leading choral societies.  The Society’s concert season is centred on its three subscription and two public concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall, including its annual performances of Messiah. The choir also performs in other major concert venues in the UK and abroad, regularly broadcasts for BBC radio and television, and has a long history of pioneering recordings.  (Huddersfield is a large market town in West Yorkshire, England, located halfway between Leeds and Manchester.)

Choral Splendour is part of Huddersfield Choral Society’s tour to Toronto which also includes a performance of Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast with the TMC and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
